From an article in the Baltimore Sun about the Food Network:
"According to Marc Summers, the executive producer of Dinner Impossible as well as host of the show Unwrapped, the transition from dump-and-stir to reality was inevitable. 'They have to grow,' he said. 'Look at VH1 - they have no videos anymore. It's the same with the Food Network. They have to move beyond cooking.'"

To what, exactly?

I wouldn't mind having a few of those so-called reality shows mixed in with the real cooking shows. But all reality and few, if any, "dump and stir" shows beyond Rachael Ray and what's her name, the semi-homemade person? There's a reason I don't watch the Food Network anymore.

I understand that businesses have to evolve to stay relevant...but doesn't it seem like the public is NOT demanding more reality shows these days? Or am I kidding myself?

P.S. Your last comment on the Dining@Large kid-friendly restaurant thread made me laugh and cringe at the same time. I PROMISE you - I was not one of the screaming mothers next to you at Red Robin (though I do go there with my friends and our kids). If I was going to spend all my time at a restaurant screaming, I'd just stay home. It's cheaper.
